Terms

The deal, in plain words.

What Jalten does and does not promise, how the free trial works, and how either of us can end it.

Effective 14 October 2026

Who you are dealing with

Jalten is operated by Oliver Scholefield, a sole trader based in Australia, ABN 70 947 234 028. “We” and “us” mean the operator; “you” means the person or organisation using Jalten. You can reach us at hello@jalten.com.

Using Jalten in the browser, Jalten for Mac (coming soon), the admin console or the free trial means you accept these terms. If you accept them for an organisation, you confirm that you may do so for it. Browser Protection, the Chrome extension we also operate under the Guard4AI name, has its own terms.

What Jalten can and cannot promise

Jalten catches a great deal, but it may not catch everything. Treat it as a seatbelt, not a chauffeur.

Before a request is sent, Jalten looks for the patterns and names it recognises and replaces them with stand-ins. Language is endless, and something sensitive can slip through. Some kinds of detail, such as dates and amounts, are noticed and sent as written unless you choose to replace them.

You are responsible for what you send. Jalten reduces the chance of a mistake; it does not remove it, and it is not a substitute for your own judgement, your employer’s policies, or any legal or professional duty you have about client information. Every new finding opens a review before sending, so you can correct what was found and what was missed. Use it, particularly for anything that would matter if it leaked.

We also cannot promise that Jalten is always available or free of errors. AI providers change their services, and something can break. We fix problems as fast as we can, and we do not guarantee uptime.

AI models can be wrong. Check anything that matters before you rely on it.

Your AI providers

Jalten works with your organisation’s own OpenAI and Anthropic accounts, or with your own API key if you use it on your own. You are the provider’s customer: you pay them directly for your usage, their terms apply to your use of their models, and what they keep is set by your agreement with them.

The costs Jalten shows are calculated from the tokens each provider reports and its list prices. They are estimates to help you plan and set usage caps; they are not a bill, and your provider’s invoice is the record. Usage caps apply to company chats sent through Jalten, while they are switched on for the workspace. For a ceiling on everything a key can spend, also set your provider’s own spending limit.

The free trial

  • The trial is assisted: you ask for it, we review the request, and we set it up with you.
  • It lasts 30 days, for up to 25 people in one workspace. We may agree a different length or size with you in writing.
  • It is free. We do not ask for payment details for the trial, and we charge nothing for it.
  • You still pay your AI providers for your own usage during the trial.
  • Before the trial ends we will talk with you about what happens next. If you do not continue, the workspace closes at the end of the trial.

Using Jalten on your own

  • You can use Jalten in the browser on your own, in a workspace with one member, with your own OpenAI or Anthropic key. We charge nothing for it. If we ever introduce a charge, we will tell you by email first, and nothing is charged unless you agree to it.
  • You pay your provider for your usage, as described above. We may limit how many requests a workspace sends, to keep the service working for everyone.
  • Your conversations in the browser are kept only in that browser. If you clear its data or lose the device, they are gone and we cannot recover them. Export anything you need to keep.

Your workspace and your team

  • The person who creates a workspace is its owner. Owners and admins decide who is invited, which models are available and which rules apply, and they are responsible for those choices.
  • Keep your sign-in to yourself. Everyone in a workspace uses two-step sign-in.
  • Invite only people who work with or for your organisation.
  • Tell us straight away if you think someone has signed in as you, or that a provider key has been exposed.

What is yours

  • What you write, and what your AI provider sends back to you, is yours. We do not claim it. Your conversations are kept on your device, not on our servers.
  • We give you permission to use Jalten in the browser and to install and use Jalten for Mac once it is released for as long as you use Jalten under these terms. Jalten itself stays ours.

Using it fairly

  • Do not resell Jalten, or pass it off as your own product.
  • Do not try to break, bypass or reverse engineer Jalten’s sign-in, policy or usage controls, except where the law specifically allows it.
  • Do not use Jalten to break the law, to break your AI provider’s terms, or to get around an obligation you have to someone else about their data.

We can suspend or end a workspace or an account that does these things. Where it is reasonable we will tell you first and give you a chance to fix it.

Ending

You can stop using Jalten at any time, for any reason, by telling us at hello@jalten.com. We will confirm it in writing.

  • When a workspace closes, its Macs can no longer use company models, and we delete the workspace’s records when you ask us to, as the privacy policy describes.
  • Jalten never deletes anything on your Mac or in your browser by itself. Your conversations and projects stay where they are until you remove them.
  • Disconnect your provider keys in the console or the app, or revoke them with the provider, if you no longer want Jalten to use them. A personal key is deleted from our key store when you disconnect it.

Where you stand if something goes wrong

Plain version: if Jalten misses something and data is sent that you did not mean to send, that is not something we can carry for you. Jalten is a tool that reduces a risk. We are not insuring you against the consequences of a leak.

So, to the extent the law allows:

  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss: lost profits, lost business, reputational harm, or the cost of dealing with a data breach.
  • We are not responsible for your AI providers’ services, their charges or what they do with what you send them.
  • Where we are liable, our total liability is capped at the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose.

Your rights under Australian law

Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law, and nothing is meant to.

Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded, including that they will be provided with due care and skill and be fit for the purpose we describe. If we fail one of those guarantees you are entitled to a remedy. The limits above apply only to the extent the law permits, and where we are allowed to limit our liability for a failure, we limit it to supplying the service again.

These terms are governed by the law of New South Wales, Australia, and disputes go to the courts of New South Wales and the courts that can hear appeals from them.

Changes to these terms

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will email workspace owners and move the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use Jalten after that means the new terms apply. If you do not accept them, stop using Jalten and tell us.
